Real Downtown Frederick, MD Wedding: K&C's Celebration at Union Mills Public House

K&C are a fun, cat and baseball loving couple who wanted to have a casual ceremony, a big party, epic food, and lots of fun details. When we first met them in March 2025, over a year before their wedding day, we talked about how much they loved the industrial vibes of Union Mills Public House, the Carroll Creek Park in Downtown Frederick, and how much they really wanted help with the design components for their wedding day.

Our Role as Coordinators & Collaborating with K&C
SBD got to work closely with K&C on the design for their wedding. What did that mean? After a kickoff call and a few questionnaires, we set forth armed with their ideas, preferences, priorities, and colors, to not just create a design board for them and all of their vendors to refer to, but to also provide them with a shopping list!
On the day of we set up and cleaned up all of their personal decor, assisted vendors with their own tasks and logistics, and make sure the wedding party was well hydrated. Of course with a May wedding, there's always the risk of a few raindrops so we made sure that we navigated the possibilities of how it would affect cocktail hour and sunset photos. We got to work alongside one of our favorite photographers, Isabel Bracho Photography, which made these adjustments easy.
At one point during the wedding reception the uncle of the groom approached SBD and wanted to say something on the mic about Chris's dad who had passed. This was not in the timeline but it was important to SBD to at least mention this to the couple. Why? Because the couple is our top priority and family, especially regarding passed loved ones like parents, are precious pieces of that couple's story. We could have told the uncle a hard, "no," but we never want to be insensitive to any guest, especially if it's also directly connected to our couple in such an important way.
From Design to Reality
When designing the details for your wedding, the components can be really daunting. Alongside your planning checklist, a decor checklist, and your design board, you can easily check things off one at a time but still see how it'll all work together.
Here's how some of their inspiration images translated to the big day!
Wedding Party Fashion

The inspiration image and color. A beautiful powder steel blue that we thought was perfect alongside the terracotta brick.

Karissa's ladies all in the same color but they chose fabrics and styles they'd be most comfortable in.
The Bouquets

From K's original Pinterest board, we knew we needed to incorporate the anemones, blue delphinium, orange flowers, and keep a similar shape.

The florist, Wildflower Weddings at Bend in the River Farms, truly knocked it out of the park on this one.
The Ceremony

The inspiration of the asymmetrical arch came from the desire to add color but to work with the brick and draping at the venue.

The ceremony backdrop on their big day had touches of blue delphinium and was even repurposed or the reception.
The Cake

The inspiration - keep things bright but incorporate dried flowers that they loved in some of their original Pinterest images.

We literally love the real-life creation from Sage Cakery. Absolute slay but you can still tell that it's a Sage masterpiece.
The Linens

The inspiration - bring in the terracotta and blue together with possible sage accents.

Linens were on more than just guest tables but they opted for blue napkins for guests, terracotta for the bread baskets, and an ivory for the main linen.
We loved working alongside K&C and are truly bummed that their wedding planning journey with us is over. But we will always love our chats with them and their cat, Mookie Petts, as we worked through the design and logistics of their wedding day.
